The renovation of an existing
classroom into a new Biology Lab
included accommodations for a new
built-in instructor’s table and lab
benches designed to accommodate 24
students. Our work included
preparation of alternate layouts for
review by faculty and staff during the
Schematic Design Phase in order to
determine the optimal layout for both
teaching and laboratory instruction as
well as the number of student stations
that could be accommodated within the
space.

The project was bid during the spring to
accommodate long lead times required
for laboratory casework. Construction
occurred during the summer while the
remainder of the building was occupied
for summer classes by both students
and faculty. The project was
successfully completed in time for the
start of the fall semester.

Construction has wrapped up and furniture delivery is nearing completion on our new Learning Commons Center at Bristol Community College’s Attleboro Campus, a former Texas Instruments site. The scope of work included the complete demolition of an existing commercial kitchen and adjacent cafeteria and the construction of a new center intended to service student needs. Programmatic spaces included group study rooms, tutoring spaces, computer stations, testing rooms, office spaces and IT support. New spaces are organized around existing skylights and windows to make use of natural light to the greatest extent possible and minimize the need for artificial lighting. Energy efficient upgrades include the installation of new LED lighting and the replacement of an existing 30+ year old rooftop unit with a new efficient unit.
