Fantail Addition

Massachusetts Maritime Academy

On a campus with firm discipline and little privacy, the Fantail aims to provide a comfortable environment for socializing. In keeping with the tugboats and ships these students operate, precast panels bend in an arc similar to a bridge deck and look towards the spectacular Cape Cod Canal Approach. A monitor sits atop and floods the central space with light. Exterior materials are used in keeping with the context of the campus: brick, concrete and copper. On the interior high mounted pipe raised wood floor doubles as a private lounge area and stage, exposed ceilings incorporate theatrical lighting over a dance floor and custom booths allow informal gatherings.

Copeland Building Stabilization

Massachusetts Maritime Academy

Located precipitously at the edge of the Cape Cod Canal, the steel and masonry Copeland Building was being considered for demolition following critical damage during 1996 repairs to the bulkhead forming the water’s edge upon which it sits. Through expedient emergency measures, including hydraulic jacking and installation of grade beams, the building was stabilized. The building, originally constructed in 1933-34, has recently been renovated and continues to serve the Academy.

Campus Center Entrance Renovation

Bridgewater State University

Originally designed prior to the enactment of the ADA, one of the prime goals of the project was to provide easy and direct handicapped access to both venues. Additional goals of the project included consideration of program revisions to better respond to current uses and improve general curb appeal.

The revisions to the Campus Center Main Entrance include an open and flexible plan that will serve as a link between East and West Campuses with various digital media upgrades.
